Emporio
A Village Steeped in History
Emporio’s history dates back to the 15th century when it was one of Santorini’s five fortified settlements, built by the Venetians to protect against pirates. The village’s name, derived from the Greek word for “commerce,” reflects its importance as a trading hub during that era.
Emporio’s well-preserved Venetian architecture, including the Kasteli castle, offers a glimpse into the village’s rich past. The narrow streets, whitewashed houses, and traditional churches create a charming atmosphere that transports visitors back in time.
